Ashwagandha Powder

Ashwagandha Powder

A bitter, earthy root powder from Ayurvedic tradition, stirred into warm drinks and foods for centuries. Mild enough to disappear into a smoothie, distinct enough to taste if you use too much.

What It Is

Ashwagandha is the dried, ground root of a shrub native to India and parts of Africa. It has been used in Ayurvedic practice for thousands of years, making it one of the most studied plants in that tradition. The flavor is earthy and slightly bitter, with a faint horse-radish-like edge that softens when blended with fat, sweetener, or warm spices.

The powder form skips any prep work. No steeping, no straining, no waiting. You measure and mix, and it goes wherever you put it.

What To Do

Start with a quarter to half a teaspoon. That is enough to get acquainted without the bitterness taking over. Stir it into a smoothie with banana and nut butter, whisk it into warm milk of choice with honey and a pinch of cinnamon, or blend it into overnight oats. It plays well with chocolate, vanilla, and warming spices.

Avoid stirring it into plain water on its own, the texture and taste do not cooperate. Fat and sweetness are its best friends. Store in a sealed container away from heat and light, and it will keep for up to a year.
