Beeswax Beads
Pure beeswax in small beads, ready to melt. Bees produce more of it per pound of honey than most people realize, and it has been useful in kitchens and households for centuries.
What It Is
Beeswax is the wax honeybees secrete to build comb. The beads are just beeswax in a form that melts evenly and measures easily, no big block to shave or wrestle with.
It has a faint honey scent and a warm, golden color. In the kitchen it shows up most often as a coating or a sealant, but it also goes into homemade food wraps, lip balms, wood conditioners, and candles. It is food safe, and people have been using it to preserve and protect food since long before refrigerators existed.
What To Do
Melt the beads in a small heat-safe bowl set over simmering water, the same way you would melt chocolate. Use melted beeswax to coat the cut end of a hard cheese to slow drying, to make reusable fabric food wraps, or to season a wooden cutting board alongside a neutral oil.
For candles or wraps, a kitchen scale helps with ratios. Store the beads somewhere cool and dry. They do not expire and will keep as long as you need them.
