Dark Chocolate Covered Cherries
A whole dried tart cherry wrapped in 70% dark chocolate: the kind of thing that disappears faster than you planned.
What It Is
Tart cherries have a sharper, more assertive flavor than sweet cherries, which means they hold their own against genuinely dark chocolate. At 70% cacao, this chocolate is bitter enough to be interesting, not just sweet. The combination has won awards, and once you taste it, that is not surprising.
The cherry stays chewy inside its shell, which gives each piece a little contrast in texture. These are made with fair trade, organic chocolate and organic fruit. Watch for the label note: pits or pit fragments can occasionally be present.
What To Do
Eat them as they are. That is really the move. A small bowl of these next to coffee after dinner is hard to beat, and they work just as well packed into a lunch or kept in a desk drawer for the afternoon slump.
If you want to use them in baking, chop a handful and stir them into brownie batter before baking, or scatter them over vanilla ice cream. Store them somewhere cool and dry, away from direct light, and they will keep well for weeks.
