Dark Chocolate Covered Raisins
A plump raisin inside a shell of bittersweet chocolate: old-school candy that actually tastes like something.
What It Is
These start with organic raisins, sweet and a little jammy on their own, then get coated in bittersweet chocolate with just enough cocoa powder to keep things from tipping sugary. The result is a candy that works on two levels at once: the chew of the fruit and the snap of the chocolate.
The bittersweet coating here is the whole story. It pulls back the sweetness so the raisin's fruitiness comes through instead of getting buried. That balance is what makes them hard to put down.
What To Do
Eat them out of hand, obviously. But they are also worth scattering over oatmeal, stirring into trail mix, or folding into a cookie dough that calls for chocolate chips. A small bowl of these next to a cup of coffee after dinner is a dessert that takes about ten seconds to put together.
Store them somewhere cool and dry, away from direct light, and they will keep their snap and flavor for weeks. If your kitchen runs warm, a sealed container in the fridge works fine.
