Jolly Beans

Jolly Beans

Classic jelly beans, made with fruit and vegetable juices instead of artificial dyes. Every color comes from something real: carrot, blackcurrant, radish, spirulina.

What It Is

Jelly beans have been around since the 1860s, and the formula has barely changed: a chewy, sugary center with a thin candy shell. What has changed is how they get their color. These skip the synthetic dyes and use organic fruit and vegetable juices instead, which means the red is from radish and the green from spirulina, not a lab.

The ingredient list is longer than you might expect for candy this simple, but most of those ingredients are doing one job: building the shell and keeping the bean glossy and intact. Contains wheat. Made on shared equipment with peanuts, tree nuts, milk, soy, and sesame.

What To Do

Eat them by the handful, sort them by color, or use them to bribe a child into good behavior. They work as a topping on a birthday cake or cupcakes when you want something cheerful without the neon.

Store them somewhere cool and dry and they will keep for months without going stiff. A sealed container helps on humid Tennessee days. Buy as much or as little as you need.
