Mushroom Coffee

Mushroom Coffee

Seven mushroom extracts blended into real medium-dark roast coffee, no foraging required.

What It Is

This is ground coffee with a lineup of mushroom extracts, including lion's mane, chaga, reishi, cordyceps, and three others, worked right into the blend. It tastes like coffee. The mushrooms pull back on the bitterness and add a faint earthiness, but nothing funky or strange.

Mushrooms like these have a long place in East Asian food and folk tradition, and pairing them with coffee is a newer Western idea built on that history. The result is a cup that drinks like your normal morning coffee, just with something extra going on underneath.

What To Do

Brew it exactly as you would any ground coffee: drip machine, French press, pour-over. A standard ratio is two tablespoons per six ounces of water, adjusted to taste. The earthy notes play well with milk of choice and hold up fine to a little sweetener.

Because it is already ground, keep it in an airtight container away from light and heat, and plan to use it within a few weeks for the best flavor. It works as a straight swap in any recipe that calls for ground coffee, including spiced coffee drinks or a simple morning cup.
